The studio, located at 366 Adelaide St. East in Toronto's St. Lawrence Market neighbourhood, has operated under the Matthew Bennett Photography name since its founding. The rebrand to Portraits.To marks a strategic repositioning that places the studio's unique dual identity — a working actor behind the camera — at the centre of its brand.
An Actor Behind the Lens
What distinguishes Portraits.To from Toronto's crowded headshot and portrait photography market is a credential no other studio in the city can claim: the photographer is a working, credited actor.
Bennett has appeared on sets across Canada and beyond, and brings a performer's understanding of presence, authenticity, and emotional direction to every session he photographs. Where most photographers “coach” a session from the outside, Bennett works from the inside — using techniques and direction to help every client access the authentic presence that makes a portrait or headshot genuinely work.
"Most photographers tell you where to look," says Bennett. "I work the way a director works — I'm reading your face, adjusting in real time, and looking for the moment when something genuine happens. That's the moment I want. Everything else is just a photo."
The result is a body of work that has earned 102 five-star Google reviews — many from veteran actors and executives with decades of professional experience and dozens of prior headshot sessions behind them.
A Brand Built for Toronto
The decision to rebrand under the Portraits.To domain was driven by both strategic and creative considerations. The .TO country code is a top-level domain widely recognised as shorthand for Toronto giving Portraits.To an immediate geographic identity that no conventional domain can replicate. The name reads natively as "Portraits. Toronto." — short, memorable, and impossible to replicate on any other top-level domain.
"Portraits.To is two words and a dot," says Bennett. "It says exactly what I do and where I do it. For a studio that’s rooted downtown Toronto it was absolutely the right choice."
The rebrand involved a comprehensive overhaul of the studio's digital presence — including a new website architecture, SEO strategy, and a complete content programme targeting Toronto's actor, executive, and creative professional communities.
A Studio for Actors, Executives, and Creatives
Portraits.To serves three primary client communities: Toronto actors seeking casting-quality headshots from a photographer who understands the industry from the inside; executives and business professionals requiring LinkedIn, corporate, and personal branding photography; and creative professionals building a visual identity that goes beyond the conventional headshot.
Sessions are available seven days a week at 366 Adelaide St. East, Suite 243, in downtown Toronto. Packages range from $225 for a 30-minute introductory session to $825 for a four-hour editorial half-day. All sessions include professional direction, studio lighting setups, and post-session retouching.
